Faculty positions in Ecology
The Department of Biology at Sultan Qaboos University is a diverse department with majors in environmental biology and biotechnology. The Department wishes to appoint two organism biologists at the level of Assistant Professor. Both candidates should be passionate and innovative teachers with the ability to lead field-based programs and prepare students to meet the environmental challenges of the 21st century.
The first position is for a plant ecologist. The candidate must have the ability to teach angiosperm biology and plant physiology. The ability to teach biostatistics will be highly regarded. Previous experience with arid region biology would be a strong advantage as would experience with advanced skills such as remote sensing, GIS, or use of molecular markers. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong field-based research program.
The second position is for an animal ecologist. Applicants may work on any group including mammals, birds, reptiles or invertebrates in either terrestrial or marine habitats. The ability to teach biostatistics will be highly regarded. We are particularly interested in applicants that can lead to a strong field-based research program based on Oman’s natural environment.
Requirements
Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant field and at least four years of teaching experience and a record of publications in well-reputed international journals.
