Job Description: Plant Breeder (Molecular)/ Plant Molecular Biologist

 

The College of Agricultural and Marine Sciences at the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), the national University of the Sultanate of Oman, provides a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, research and extension activities. All instruction is in English and an earned PhD is a minimum requirement for academic appointments. The University is located in  the capital area and close to excellent international schools and unique natural recreational areas. The College has a vacancy for academic staff in the Department of Plant Sciences for the academic year 2021/2022 (Approximate joining date: August, 2021).

 

Assistant/Associate Professor: Plant Breeder (Molecular)/ Plant Molecular Biologist

 

The Department of Plant Sciences is seeking a candidate to teach and conduct basic and applied research in the field of plant breeding, genetics and plant molecular biology.

 

Duties:

§  Develop and teach introductory and advanced courses in Genetics, Plant Breeding, Plant Biotechnology, Plant Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Biometry, and other related courses.

§  Supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate student research.

§  Provide academic advising to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

§  Attract research grants funded  by national and international sources.

§  Undertake active research roles in the field of expertise.

§  Publication in ISI-indexed peer-reviewed journals

- Carry out community services including active participation in departmental, college, and university-wide committees and activities.

Requirements

Requirements:  

§  A Ph.D. in Plant Molecular Biology/Plant Breeding/Plant Genetics

§  In-depth subject knowledge/expertise in the field of expertise

§  Research experience in plant molecular breeding, plant molecular biology, next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics and/or genetics.

§  Preference will be given to those with experience in teaching (minimum of two years)as well as conducting laboratory parts of  introductory and advanced courses of the designated areas 

§  Demonstrable ability to communicate complex oral and written information clearly in English.

§  A track record of securing funding and successful completion of projects.

§  Must have a track record of publications in leading peer-reviewed journals in the field of expertise, especially in the last 5 years.
