Duties
The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Sultan Qaboos University, Sultanate of Oman, is pleased to invite applications for a full-time faculty position in Mechanical Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor beginning in September 2023.
The candidate must be highly qualified with a doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering from a renowned university in the area of thermos-fluids. Applications are invited in the areas of thermos-fluids in general and preferably in Thermodynamics and/or Heat Transfer. Candidates with further knowledge and proven experience in the areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) will be considered over other candidates. The candidate must have earned his/her BSc in Mechanical Engineering and must have excellent academic credentials in this field with good research and publication records. The successful candidate is expected to be able to attract funding for research, and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in control thermos-fluids related areas.
Assignment: The prospective faculty member will be assigned to teaching undergraduate and graduate students, supervening final year projects, providing academic advising to students, initiating and cooperating in research in the field of expertise and participating actively in the different committees in the Department.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
All candidates must have an earned Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree by the date of appointment in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited university.
Targeted Candidates should at least satisfy the followings:
- Excellent oral and written proficiency skills in English.
- Record of or potential for strong scholarly achievements in Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, or one of the emerging trends relevant to thermos-fluids.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- A commitment to teaching excellence and an ongoing, externally funded research program.
- Willingness to teach core undergraduate and graduate courses and offer electives in thermos-fluids and in the particular area of specialty.
- Active in research in the area of specialty and the ability to attract funds and work in collaborative research teams.
- Willingness and preferably experience in participating in administrative academic duties.
- Preferably, having experience with accreditation tasks and particularly ABET accreditation.
