Student supervision and dissemination of scientific findings, as well as experience of mentoring young researchers, coordinating and sustaining diverse teams and collaborative networks.
Candidates are expected to have substantial knowledge in one or several areas of marine biotechnology, including aquaculture,marine natural products, genetics, and omic approaches.
The senior researcher for the Centre of Excellence in Marine Biotechnology will be expected to do independent laboratory and field-based marine biotechnology research.
The senior researcher will be expected to supervise graduate students, publish scientific papers and file patents, and attract consultancy and grant funding.
The senior researcher will be expected to carry out administrative functions linked to the center’s various activities. These will include the preparation of research proposals, project management, data analysis, organization of conferences and workshops, and the preparation of scientific, reports, and conference papers.
The researcher should disseminate scientific findings to the public,through lectures, presentations, and media.
The position will be based on the main campus of Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) but may involve periods of work on other sites, including the SQU Marine Unit at Al-Hail.

Ph.D. in marine biotechnology or a closely related field from a recognized university with at least 8 years research experience.
Proven track record of scientific publications (more than 8 papers published in reputable journals) and patents.
Experience in one or more of the following areas: - Algae cultivation and related activities - Fish farming including integrated aquaculture and fish farming - Characterization and use of marine natural products with state-of-the-art technology, biosensors, marine genomics, marine metabolomics, marine transcriptomes Use of marine algae for biofuel and/or nutrient production.
Strong commitment and evidence of mentoring junior staff.
Research capabilities to successfully plan and implement research projects
A record of the development and completion of scientific and advisory projects.
Fluent in spoken and written English.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.
Work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
