Duties
The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Sultan Qaboos University, Sultanate of Oman, is pleased to invite applications for a full-time faculty position in Mechanical Engineering at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor beginning in January, 2024.
The prospective faculty member will be assigned teaching undergraduate and graduate students, supervening final year projects, providing academic advising to students, initiating and cooperating in research in the field of expertise and participating actively in the different committees in the Department.
Requirements
The area of interest for this position is modeling, simulation and control of electromechanical systems such as robotics, autonomous systems. Having background in AI/machine learning and its applications in dynamic mechanical systems is a plus. Candidates who transcend the traditional boundaries of Mechanical Engineering to bring into the research effort insights from Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering or related disciplines are especially encouraged to apply.
All candidates must have an earned Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree by the date of appointment in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited university.
Targeted Candidates should at least satisfy the followings:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Record of or potential for strong scholarly achievements in relevant field.
- A commitment to teaching excellence and an ongoing, externally funded research program.
- Willingness to teach core undergraduate and graduate courses and offering electives in the particular area of specialty.
- Active in research in the area of specialty and the ability to attract funds and work in collaborative research teams.
- Willingness and preferably experience in participating in the administrative academic duties.
- Preferably, having experience with accreditation tasks and particularly ABET accreditation.
