Duties

1) Keeping abreast of recent developments in the academic field to enhance teaching and research activities within the department.
2) Implementing the security and safety requirements established by the university to provide a suitable working environment within the department.
3) Teaching in the field of specialization.
4) Providing academic guidance to students and providing them with information related to the specialization.
5) Participating in department and college council meetings and engaging in the activities of internal and external committees as requested.
6) Contributing to scientific research, providing scientific consultations, and attending conferences and scientific seminars in the field of specialization following the established rules.
7) Contributing to quality assurance activities in academic aspects in accordance with assigned tasks.
8) Contributing to community service by participating in seminars and workshops and preparing studies and research related to community issues.
9) Any other tasks assigned in the field of work.

Specific Duties:

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  1. Teach courses using English as the medium of instruction.
  2. Engage in scholarly research activities leading to publications in refereed international journals and attracting research funding. 
  3. Play an important role in research, curriculum development, and student academic advising.
  4. Contribute to community service to the general public and to the official institutions in different forms, such as public presentations, workshops, etc.
  5. Supervise the academic projects of students, including graduation projects.
  6. Participate effectively in administrative and academic duties and committees at the college and university levels.
  7. Attend departmental, college, and university academic events such as meetings, seminars, conferences, etc
  8. Should be able to provide direct, hands-on training and practical supervision for the students’ department.
  9. Collaborate effectively with colleagues to develop, evaluate, and teach courses.
  10. Teach students in the assigned form(s), such as face-to-face, online learning platform, hybrid, web-enhanced, lab, learning center, or other setting as appropriate.
  11. Provide academic advising to students during office hours, by appointment in person, or via email/online platform as appropriate.

Requirements

 General conditions for teaching faculty positions:


1.The applicant must be of good conduct and behavior.
2.To have the following qualifications for appointment: 
- It must be issued on a regular basis, and not be in the system of affiliation, distance education, or blended education.
- It must be equivalent by the competent authority in the Sultanate if it is issued by a non-Omani higher education institution (Only for Omani).
3. Proficiency in using information technology effectively.
4. Priority is given to those who have experience in university teaching and scientific research.
5. Apply for one job in each college.
6. When screening applications, the terms, conditions and procedures contained in the executive regulations of the Sultan Qaboos University Law and the regulations for appointing Omanis to academic positions at Sultan Qaboos University will be applied.

 

Specific Requirements:

  1. The candidate should have earned a Bachelor's degree in Primary Education – Math and Science.
  2. The candidate should have earned a Ph.D. degree from a higher education institution within the top 50% of universities, based on the (QS), (THE), or (Shanghai) classification of universities in the year of graduation.
  3. The candidate should have earned a Ph.D. qualification in Primary education (Math and Science) from an institution where English is the language of instruction.
  4. The candidate should be an active researcher in Math and Science Education in the early/primary years and intellectually engaged in his or her discipline.
  5. The candidate should have a minimum of 3 years of experience preparing teachers for teaching in the early years (3–10). Preference will be given to those with experience in teaching children at the early childhood stage.
  6. Candidates should be able to teach at the Department of Early Education using English/Arabic as a medium of instruction.
  7. Proficiency in the English language, both written and spoken, by providing an English test score of (6.5) in IELTS or its equivalent in the TOEFL. The score in each skill must not be less than (6), and the certificate should be valid.
  8. Omani candidates must not exceed the age of (50) at the time of the advertisement's publication.
